C.J. on confessing our sin
A great post by C.J. Mahaney on confession of sin by Christians. He starts off by discussing the case of professional athlete Andy Petitte (a professing Christian caught up in the current baseball performance-enhancing drugs scandal). But read to the bottom where C.J. discusses the need for confessions to be short (I hadn’t thought about that) and for the role of pride in our reluctance to confess. Good stuff.

This subject reminded me of Olympic athlete Marion Jones’ situation, as she was sentenced to six months in prison. She initially denied her guilt, but after being charged with lying about steroid use and a check fraud scam, this reporter observed:
“After her guilty pleas last October, Jones made an apologetic and teary-eyed statement outside court, saying, “It’s with a great amount of shame that I stand before you and tell you that I have betrayed your trust.”
“I have been dishonest, and you have the right to be angry with me,” she added. “I have let (my family) down. I have let my country down, and I have let myself down. … I want to ask for your forgiveness for my actions, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.” (from Jim Fitzgerald at the Oakland Tribune Jan 22,2008)
