Quotes for the weekend

Published by Molly Friesen at 1:12 pm under General Peacemaking

“Peace is not only better than war, but infinitely more arduous.”

— George Bernard Shaw

Putting it in more of an inter-personal context, this quote reminded me of another one that we cite frequently around here:

“Nothing is so cruel as the tenderness that consigns another to his sin. Nothing can be more compassionate than the severe rebuke that calls a brother back from the path of sin.”

– Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together

Yes, Bonehoffer is right. I’ve lost some friends and ticked off some family members but after much prayer and my heart full of love I have privately confronted ones just about to fall off a cliff from playing with sinful issues.

But….most have made it back; in time, and forever thanked me for the courage to do the right thing. I have had loving people show me when I was in self pity and other destructive processes.
