A Public Confession
Ken Sande passed on to me a link to an amazing public confession by a pastor–ten years after he left the ministry because of an affair. Ken noted that it was one of the best public confessions he’s ever read.
We’ve all heard public apologies that leave us wondering if it was an apology at all (e.g., something like “Let me read this statement that my lawyer obviously wrote so that I won’t get into more trouble than I’m already in.”). Those kinds of confessions don’t give much satisfaction on either side.
And while I don’t want to be the guy who is all about “rating” the apologies I see, (many of my own apologies would not rate highly, I’m afraid), it is good to draw your attention to this one. Take a look and see how he admits the depth of the pain he’s caused (“Acknowledge the Hurt” from the Seven A’s), and then think about what would happen in our churches if this kind of “forgiveness service” would take place long before the church split happens.
