Peacemaking Around the World

Print-friendly Version

Welcome to the International Section...

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Warm greetings to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And, welcome to the International Section of our website.

We are designing the International Section with a global perspective in mind. You will find articles that respond to some of the questions most frequently asked by people living outside the United States. You will also find links to articles and organizations that may serve as resources. Our desire is that this section be a resource that serves the needs of peacemakers around the world.

If you have not already done so, be sure to sign up to receive our free monthly eNews @ Peacemaker Ministries. You can also receive our free quarterly International e-newsletter (called Peace on Earth), which will feature information and ideas that are more globally focused. You may sign up for either/both of these publications by clicking here.

I hope you will let me know what we can do to serve you better. Please write me with your comments and suggestions. Send your e-mail to czimmer@Peacemaker.net, or give me a call at 001-406-256-1583.

May God bless your work as you serve him as a peacemaker.

With best regards in Christ,

Chip Zimmer
Director of International Ministries

Getting Started
Answering The Call to Peacemaking One of the questions I am often asked is, "How do I become a peacemaker?"

When people ask this question, most of the time what they are really asking is, "How do I start an organization like Peacemaker Ministries?" or "How do I start a conciliation practice?" There is nothing wrong with these questions, and I am glad to reply. But I have found that the first step in responding to God's peacemaking call is for people to ask themselves the more personal question, "How do I become a peacemaker?" Until we are personally invested in responding biblically to conflict in our own lives, it is hard to build ministries that help others do so.

Bringing Peacemaking To Your Church

The local church is God's primary vehicle for peacemaking. As someone once said, "The local church is God's Plan A for peacemaking. There is no Plan B."

Don't believe it? Consider 1 Corinthians 6:1-8. In these verses, the Apostle Paul states that the church is the forum for resolving disputes between believers, adding that it would be better to be wronged or cheated than to take another Christian to court. Yet, sadly, the Church often fails to play its assigned role, sometimes through ignorance, sometimes because it is not sure how, and sometimes out of disobedience.

So, how do we help the local church assume its peacemaking role? Churches, like other organizations, can be slow to change and resistant to new ideas. Frequently, the critical element in helping the church is helping the pastor or other church leaders catch the peacemaking vision.
